MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT

I am glad to see that this league is becoming more popular week by week. Yesterday two new teams came and as a result the fixtures have had to be madly adjusted. At the beginning of the season you were all promised 7 games for £10, and as I am a man of my word you will still get that, here is how it will work.

You will play everybody once (6 games)

You will then face an opponent randomly selected by me. This means all 7 teams in this league will play 7 games.

We are currently in week 4, with 4 more weeks after Christmas. THERE ARE NO GAMES NEXT WEEK.

No more teams can now enter until the end of the season (4TH FEB 2010)

We will restart on the Wednesday 14th Jan 2010, if this clashes with your exams let me know and I will push the start date back a week.

This week’s results

This week perhaps saw the most entertaining football all season, on average there was a goal every 2 minutes, which clearly shows every single team has attacking players and rubbish goalkeepers. Lighting the fireworks EFC and BBC contested in a sensational 8-8 draw where EFC once again escaped from the claws of defeat and came back from 3 goals behind. You would think that would be enough excitement for the day but then Smokey FC and Street Fame stepped up to the plate, where we saw the first ever player sin binned. In the end Smokey ended up narrow victors and as a result move up to 2nd place with EFC slipping to third. In our final encounter the new teams went head to head with Chiswick easily overcoming Al Shebab who barely mounted any attacks.

The match reports

BBC were desperate to get some points on the board after a disgraceful start to the campaign with 3 straight defeats, EFC has the reverse fortune and looked to go back to the top of the table. It started off as if I was watching ping pong, the ball bouncing up and down with Addanka and Mounir having chances at one end and then Jeff and Amil at the other end, both keepers were untested but then all the bullets started to go in. Rishi was the first to break the deadlock and took EFC into the lead. EFC didn’t look themselves though and without their army of substitutes they were starting to get tired easily. BBC took full advantage of this and good work from Mo who was solid at the back allowed for Addanka to net twice, Mounir to crack open a can of kiss ass and new signing Hasan to also get a piece of the action. EFC looked like they had been raped and left outside in the public naked as they truly didn’t know what hit them. Jeff was on damage control and managed to net twice but it was all looking pear shaped as BBC continued their spanking of EFC with two more. At the half time break BBC 6-3 EFC. In the second half Captain Jeff got out his whip and spanked all his team mates, EFC were playing a good game just failed to score with Nadim exceptional in the BBC goal. EFC came out all guns blazing, they adjusted their formation and it seemed to work. In the opening 5 minutes Amil and Tashan got it back to 6-5 only for loan signing Raju to allow for BBC to breathe again taking it to 7-5 with 12 minutes left. EFC got another back with what has to be the stupidest own goal I have ever seen the back pass saw the keeper stranded out of his line and it went in 7-6. In a sensational turn of events AmiL grabbed the equaliser with 6 minutes to go and then the million pound man Jeff took EFC into the lead for the first time in the game, they had two minutes to hang on could they do it? Im so so sorry I didn’t mean to break your heart cause Addanka he is a heartbreaker you’re a heartbreaker, he managed the equaliser in the final minute of the game to end it BBC 8-8 EFC. What a game. I think credit needs to go to the BBC goalie Nadim who actually saved them from defeat saving from point blank range four times.

The problem with Street fame is they don’t pass the ball, every single player Nouh in particular has exceptional skill but Smokey have a good defence and there is no way one single player can get through all 5 men. Street fame were looking the more dominant initially with Mo Mo getting the first goal, but from this point on it went downhill as Smokey were sizzling, singing its getting hot in here but please keep on all your clothes. New signing Ardis netted a hat trick with Jazz also scoring to take it to 4-1 with 10 minutes to the half time break. Smokey seemed to think they had won the game and just stopped working and in a turn of events Nouh’s skill was too much for Smokey and he got two to take it back to 4-3. This game had too many slide tackles with both teams having to be warned on several occasions, it seemed as though nobody was listening and Ardis then made a last man slide tackle and was sent to the sin bin as a result. While Smokey were down to 4 men the crowd booed him off the field and Jathephan took full advantage to get the equaliser. 4-4 at the half.  Once again Smokey seemed the stronger at the start of the second half scoring 3 goals in a matter of 5 minutes with Ardis scoring two more and Jazz also getting a goal. Unfortunately Smokey’s disgraceful goalkeeping continued where two bread and butter saves managed to go through the keeper and once again Street Fame were back in contention with Nouh and Jathephan scoring again. Arya then took matter into his own hands and came outfield like a man doped up on red bull, he scored twice, one goal was a cracker of a half volley that would even have Ronaldo taking notes as to how he managed to score from there. 9-6 the score. Loan signing Abdul then made it 10-6 and it really looked like there was no way back for Fame, but you would be wrong, in 5 minutes fame scored 4 times with Nouh and Jathephan scoring two more each as the crowd were shaking the cages and couldn’t believe their eyes as St fame pushed for the winner, unfortunately for them in the final moments of the game Arya was free on goal and ran down the wing to finish form a tight angle and that’s how it ended. Smokey FC 11-10 Street Fame.

Our final game saw two teams desperate to make an impression start their journey in the college 5 a side league. In honesty it was a very slow game with all the chances on goal being converted. Chiswick were by far the more dominant with captain David and his left foot writing music and man of the match Fayyad also doing a great job. Al Shebab did score some stunners with loan signings Hasan and Addanka, but as they are not really their players the defeat will seem even more bitter. Chiswick were more than comfortable in this game ending up 11-5 victors.

Player Cam:

Game of the week. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm who should I give it to? I think BBC v. EFC was better than Smokey vs. Fame ;)

Goals of the day. Arya “the a bomb” Assadkhan. A great goal from just outside the half way line sailed past the keeper with lighting speed. In the same game Jathephan (Street Fame) went past 3 players before getting the equalising goal.

Skills of the day. Addanka (BBC). With some nutmegs and brilliant interplay with the boards.

Tackle of the day. Jeff (EFC). Even though Jeff did commit a few fouls he was an absolute beast for EFC always getting stuck in. Aum (BBC) also made some great last man tackles.

Sin bin Ardis (Smokey FC). Last man slide tackle

Save of the day. Nadim (BBC). With four important saves.

Have the new teams got what it takes? After watching Chiswick and Al Shebab play it is clear that they both fit the profile of the league with a lot of attacking players and no real defenders or goalies. Chiswick impressed me more with Fayad and David in particular linking up well and Al Shebab did have a few players that were interesting, but I guess we will see how they do when we return.

Player of the week: Even though he did get sin binned Ardis (Smokey FC) gets the player of the week.

Team of the week:

GK Nadim (BBC)

DF Fayad (Chiswick)

MDF Ardis (Smokey FC)

AMF Jathephan (Street Fame)

FW Jeff (EFC)
