Games

Sporting Pfc 1             AC Stratospherico 1

Match Report:

The season kicked off with league favourites Sporting Pfc up against Mickey Mouse Diploma2 students AC Stratospherico managed by smooth looking and even smoother talking Ivan Baldaccioni.

In the AC managers absence (laying on a beach somewhere in Spain) Stratospherico got off to a lively start after struggling with a few injuries and absentees. Slightly fresher in the legs and with youth on their side AC’s fluency resulted in a few chances at goal which eventually paid off with the silky if outspoken Matt Parslows effort putting AC 1 nil up.

As AC sought solidarity across the midfield Sporting’s influence began to grow stronger and eventually missed a great chance to level when AC’s goal scorer Parslow was adjudged to be in standing in the area, conceding a penalty. Sporting’s reply nevertheless came shortly after when Marius, the player who had missed the penalty [sic] took his chance for the equaliser with aplomb.

The tables turned once more when Sporting idiosyncratically committed the same offence as their opponents and conceded a penalty through a player standing in the area. AC unlike their opponents replied by hitting the target, but were thwarted by Sporting’s keeper who was more than equal to it pulling off a save to keep his team in the game.

Sporting began to gain an edge on their opponents but ultimately the game petered out and finished one a piece.

MOTM: Lars Behrman – Defensively streets ahead and constantly the starting  point for his teams attacks.

Game 2

MCH United 0          Substandard Liege     1

Match Report:

The second fixture of the opening day saw Man Chest Hair United, brimming with experience and well…. Hair, go up against the youthful and mysterious Substandard Liege.

Less fiery than the first fixture, the game however begun equally as lively. Despite the implications of their name, Substandard surprisingly started brilliantly, playing one touch fluid and simple football around their opponents as United attempted to get a foothold in the game.

By now, the conditions begun to deteriorate and rainfall became heavier as the midfield battle took centre stage. Both teams sought to fine tune their technique and gain control of the ball with unsuspecting success, spraying around accurately placed balls in the somewhat tricky and quick conditions of the pitch.

Openings came forth for both sides, but the opening day rustiness for both teams were apparent in the finishing. Eventually Substandard’s playmaker put through workhorse John McCabe through on goal who slotted the ball low into the corner.

MCH who were missing the finesse of their Swedish top striker Henry Edberg plugged away in pursuit of answer but it was not to be. Eventually time ran out and experienced United were narrowly defeated by promising outfit Substandard Liege.

MOTM: John McCabe – Full of running, tireless and scored the winner.
