Match Report: Sporting Pfc 1 - Substandard Liege 0
The final game and second squaring up between Pfc and Liege saw and enthralling finale which saw 3 teams all within a chance of winning the championship.
Pfc begun the game, slow and sluggish, almost attempting to pick and prod their way to the title, but their challengers were in a much less charitable mood.
Liege made haste in getting their quick, slick, passing game going seizing the opportunity to get forward as often as possible. A few early interchanges between player/manager Gilliard and influential play maker Matt Lacey saw a few early chances for the young side. Gilliard, to his dismay snatched at the few gilt edged chances and could not find the breakthrough.
The endeavour in which Pfc sought to stunt their opponents attack was admirable and with the vocal player manager John Elliot back, Pfc were a far more organised and coherent outfit in defence.
Enjoying the security and solidity emanating from a rock solid defence, Pfc pushed on and took the lead when a quick counter attack saw frontman Gan slot the ball pass the keeper to put the side one up.
Liege’s reply was instant as they sought to break quickly from midfield only to be met by 11 men behind the ball in the Pfc half. Pfc were intent on holding on to the lead and stubbornly held on, hoofing the ball up field when needed and seeing out a narrow 1 nil win.
MOTM Gan - Everywhere in attack, scored the winner and chipped in in defence when his team needed him.
Match Report: AC Stratospherico 0 - Man Chest Hair United 1
Close to full strength league leaders AC went head to head for the last time with bottom of the barrel strugglers Man Chest Hair United. Much of the pre match talk talked up the inevitability of an AC victory with the champions elect comfortably expected to put their canon fodder opposition to the sword for the last time.
Man Chest Hair however, were intent on giving the doubters something to think about and were in no mood to simply roll over and be beaten. The league trailers quickly found their foot in a game in which little more than pride was at stake. Like their last few matches, Parsons was key to the danger they posed.
Forward United charged in their numbers but ultimately their attacks started from the deep lying Parsons, who simply was met with the unattainable task of beating several players at a time. Nevertheless, the diminutive playmaker quarter backing play from deep pushed on through midfield and unleashed a series of long range efforts which threatened the to breakthrough the resilient wall of the AC defence goal.
AC striker turned stopper Parslow was again at his teams fore, reacting quickly to the flurry of well delivered and executed shots from distance. United started the game on top and continued to look so deep into in to time. Meanwhile, little spurred any reaction from AC who were clearly affected by the pressure, as their bemused manager looked on from the sidelines in anguish.
The fans were becoming restless waiting for an AC response which was to instead be followed by a momentary lapse in the AC backline. A stray back pass given by defender of the season nominee, Lars, was intercepted by Jorge who could not believe his luck and made no mistake on capitalising.
Finally a response from AC came but the leaders struggled to fashion a meaningful attempt on goal. The pick of the bunch, fell to AC frontman James Baron who was quickly thwarted by the approaching keeper. AC were lucky not to concede a second as Satchell run across his goal area in pursuit of the ball but ultimately an equaliser was not to come.
Sporting Pfc the team written off in the final weeks run out League Champions.
MOTM Adam Parsons - Run the show from deep lying midfield position. A constant threat.
