Aston Gold standard week 6

Welcome to week 6,

Some shock results this week meant that the finish to the season was not as we thought. London’s Finest had a must win game against Quantity over Quality and despite practically the entire Aston university gamblers society putting their money on a finest win, Q o Q pulled off a draw in remarkable fashion. Finest also punctured the Treesdown mobile ;) to ensure they had trouble on the motorway as they couldn’t turn up in time for their game against Reds and ultimately had to forfeit. Despite not turning up they are still crowned champions of the gold standard season 4 as they are 4 points clear with only a game left, remarkable. Isa and Stafford 10 battled it out in one of the games of the season where ISA ended up narrow victors and go up to 4th. In another shock of the day Lehmann Brothers recorded their 2nd victory of the season with a somewhat comfortable win against ABG who must hang their heads in shame as their title campaign completely un ravels. With the title decided 3 points separate 2nd and 5th so it’s the chase for 2nd place.

The action

Two different styles of play met in the Finest vs. Q o Q encounter with the skill and Va Va Voom of finest being matched by determination of Q o Q. Great start to the game as both sides went out to get goals. Q o Q stunned the on looking fans into silence as Kev got the opener. Yes Q o Q were ahead probably for the first time ever. Finest came back with a double from Nathan, only for all their hard work to be undone by Tom.D who popped up with a fine strike in the bottom corner to keep the game at level terms. In the 2nd half Tom showed good movement for his team, he took a player on and blasted it which rocketed off the upright. Finest just couldn’t get going in the second half but they took a lucky lead through a great strike from Todd into the bottom left hand corner. QoQ knew they had to up their game if they had any chance of getting something. Alex was winning everything for Q o Q like a demon possessed by 3 points. Q o Q kept on breaking the play of Finest, not allowing them to play their skilful game and then **cue music** I can be your hero baby, I can kick away the pain you can net my breath away” Kevtastic sprung the trap and levelled in the dying moments. Q o Q 3-3 Finest.

ISA and Stafford 10 are used to great matches with both teams always getting a mention in the game of the weeks. The skills of Harj (ISA), Hasil (Stafford) and Bobby (ISA) had the crowd’s mouth watering as they all were the 5 a side versions of Cristiano Ronaldo. It was ISA who hit first through Jazz but Stafford blasted their way ahead with 3 goals, one from Hasil, Paul and Fin that took them into a comfortable half time lead. Team captain ISA then put his players on the naughty step and spanked them like super Nanny. They came out bombing in the 2nd half but this only resulted in Hasil bringing them back to earth with a nice turn and quick fire shot to score. ISA were now 4-1 behind and even though their keeper Issa was saving on numerous occasions they must have felt like their prayers at half time were falling on deaf ears. Boobilicious Bobby scored 2 back to back to pull ISA within goal of Stafford. Harj was dancing his way through the Stafford defence like he was on cloud 9 which allowed for them to equalise. At 4-4 if it wasn’t already it was definitely game on now. Only minutes to go you just felt this match had one more goal on it, the bets must of been flying in now. Bobby secured his place in the gold standard hall of fame as he blasted his team into the lead and it was all over for Stafford. ISA 5-4 Stafford.

ABG came into this match as favorites as Lehmann who were sitting in the bottom two seemed like it couldn’t get any worse. Kit seemed to think Lehmann Brothers are a title winning side (hold the laughter) as he stuck his team into a 2-0 lead, which had the jolly green giants huffing and puffing away and. Then things got worse for ABG as even the inventor of 5 a side whinging Frank Deng got on the score sheet which took them to a 3-0. ABG however tried to claw back with Mr. reliable Martin popping up and giving his team a good chance to comeback. At the half 3-1, ABG seemed fresh in the 2nd half and started to play like we know they can shaking that saltshaker Dave in particular was supercharged ready to lead his green army to a victory, but errr well Kit shut them up making it 4-1. ABG just didn’t die as they hit two in rapid fire through Tom and a wonder goal from James Martin as he controlled the ball with the outside of his foot as it came from the air, he then skipped past a player and blasted into the bottom left. ABG tried to come back and gave it their all, Frank as usual ran the motor mouth but Kit spoke with his feet to end a good competitive match, which both teams should be proud of. Lehmann Brothers 5-3 ABG.
