Welcome to week 2,
In a miracle turn of events the teams that were toying with relegation at the back end of season 3 now find themselves at the top of the gold standard table. Yes folks I am just as shocked as you. Treesdown went 2 wins out of 2 easily defeating Stafford 10. Finest and ISA both remain undefeated (yes yes I know it’s only been 2 games) with victories over Aston Brook Greens and a shock victory over Reds United respectively. Lehmann Brothers may find themselves getting a nose bleed as they move up to their highest ever position 4th after a win over Quantity over Quality. All in all once again a fine recipe for another magnificent gold standard season.
How it went down
Ajax Treesdown celebrated their victory turning that light bulb and dancing all the way home to that funky bhangra as they annihilated Stafford 10 whose hopes of silverware may be crushed. The only Stafford player to cause any problems was Carlos but he couldn’t muster up any goals this week. Hasil was also kept very quiet. Once again it was the duo of Dav and Raj that destroyed the Stafford defence. For one of his goals Dav must have run the full length of the pitch, he managed his hat trick while Raj scored twice in yet another impressive Treesdown performance. Treesdown 5-0 Stafford 10.
ISA are a team that truly pull out the best fixtures week in week out. They are the highlight of the night and once again this week they provided us with a spectacle against Reds United. ISA had Bobby on hand for the opening 10 minutes and Reds were finding it too difficult to cope with him, he netted twice to take ISA into a comfortable lead. ISA keeper Issa was then called into action and throughout the game he was keeping Reds at bay with a string of fine saves. Unfortunately for him the ISA defence crumbled as Mohammed managed two goals before the break to take it to 2-2 at the half time break. Deep was then given instructions to defend in the 2nd half and he did a good job. Bobby then scored a cheeky nutmeg and a penalty after a Reds defender went into the D. Their two goal lead was restored. Abdullah and Tareq combined well with Tareq doing a kind of dancing stepover, never seen before. Abdullah did get one back but they couldn’t find the equaliser. ISA 4-3 Reds.
ABG were not quite with it today and even though James Martin hit an absolute blinder from half way, they lost their lead and struggled against a Finest side who had Demi and Michael run rings around the defence. Demi scored the pick of the goals with a skilful turn and great shot. Aaron also jumped in on the action and even though Finest were only 2-1 ahead at the half in the 2nd half they seemed to pull away quickly even getting a save out of James Cole in the ABG sticks. ABG did try to get back into things and a phenomenal own goal came off the net then off the backboards then off the keeper and in was not enough to revive the ABG army. It finished Finest 5-3 ABG.
Premiership rejects Lehmann Brothers and Q o Q battled at the bottom and for the second week in succession Q o Q stunned the crowd much like Derby did against Newcastle by going ahead. Kev as usual in the right place at the right time. Thomas Wise then doubled up for Q o Q on the 10 minute mark but in form Kit Sedgewick brought Lehmann Brothers back into it. In the opening moments of the 2nd half Kev restored the Q o Q’s 2 goal advantage with saves from Mick proving crucial in keeping Q o Q ahead. Brothers attacked with Shravan who went past two and Dave then stepped his game up to take the Brothers to within a goal and then Kit did the unthinkable and equalise shortly after. It all fell apart for Q o Q in the last 5 minute as Dave and Kit both got a goal apiece to end a remarkable comeback. Lehmann Brothers 5-3 Q o Q.
