Welcome to week 1,
Looks like this season it is going to be tighter than a ballerinas outfit on performance night with 2 remarkable games ending in draws and 2 teams coming from behind to steal the victory. Reds United are the bookies favourites to win this league however they were pushed to the limit by Aston Brook Greens in a back and forth encounter it ended in a draw and this game is already a contender for game of the century forget about game of the season. Directly after this a controversial 2nd half that saw a penalty decision waved away and some decisions not being called. Finest and ISSA both had reason to be angry at the referee as either team could have won it, but you guessed it yet another draw. Our demoted teams took on the gold standard challenge with Quantity over Quality picking up where they left off losing against Stafford 10, while the Lehmann Brothers threw away an early advantage and were unravelled in the 2nd half by Ajax Treesdown. So much drama and we are only in week 1.
How it went down
Ok I am going to try and do the impossible and describe the ABG vs. Reds game in a paragraph. Forgive me if it sounds like I am calling a horse race. In an end to end first half James Martin broke the deadlock as he continues his flying form in the gold standard before he could blink Mohammed managed to steal the show at the other end to get the equaliser. Tom Spurgeon our resident midfield mad man went on a rampage to pull ABG back ahead only to have the lead snatched by Abdullah who managed to turn his marker to drive home. Dave who was having a blinder in defence took it upon himself to leap forward in true Ashley Cole fashion to restore the ABG lead but for a 3rd time their lead lasted a matter of moments as Fahad took it to 3-3. In the final 2 minutes of the game James Cole thought he had done enough to take ABG into a half time lead only for Mohammed to grab his 2nd of the game and level. A goal every 90 seconds, excellent. The 2nd half was slightly calmer and Tariq made some brilliant stops in goal one from point blank range and another from distance. James Martin once again took ABG into the lead. Abdullah got the reds back into it and levelled. James Martin once again resorted the ABG lead 6-5 only for Abdullah to once again cancel out for an unprecedented 6th time. Clearly both teams had their doses of red bull and there could have been more goals with James Martin hitting the post. It ended honours even ABG 6-6 Reds United.
Our 2nd encounter was another bone cruncher. London’s Finest are lucky to still be playing their football in this division and tried to show that they are a force to be reckoned with. It was a cool and composed 1st half with Michael and Demi acting as the deadly duo causing Isa problems in-between the sticks. For ISA jazz and bobby were just as deadly just couldn’t get the finish. At the half it was 1-0 to Finest after Michael scored. The 2nd half was much more heated with Michael doubling the finest advantage. ISA were not going to take it and went into 6th gear. Jazz and Bobby both hit the bar before a Bobby double brought ISA level in what was turning out to be a remarkable comeback. The last 10 minutes of the game were clouded with controversy as both teams felt they should have had penalties and the referee waving play on to numerous decisions that seemed obvious fouls. While the temperature escalated the game fortunately didn’t get too out of hand and a great game ended Finest 2-2 ISA.
Recently relegated Quantity over Quality have been having a tough time in the premiership and it seemed as though this league would be different Q o Q keeper Dasser captured most the headlines. Kev was firm at the back but Q o Q were playing casually. No man marking allowed for Matt Finch to take Stafford into the lead before the half time break. Stafford then continued to dominate with Q o Q only countering. Fin doubled the lead with some cheeky skill and a nice little nutmeg. Alex then pulled Q o Q back into the game with a half volley from the half way line, while the crowd bowed down to this magical goal Carlos wiped the smiles off the Q o Q faces to restore their 2 goal advantage. Matt and Carlos then made it two goals each nestling 1 more each and towards the end of the game Kev did strike back for Q o Q but there was no chance of a comeback. Stafford 10 5-2 Q o Q.
Lehmann Brothers faced off against Ajax Treesdown who had been hitting good form towards the back end of last season. Treesdown were determined to make a play for the title this time around but their season started just like last time going down to an early goal. Kit Sedgewick was the man with the plan for the brothers as he broke the deadlock. Mike Gays then pulled off a string of saves to keep them in the game as Lehmann Brothers were shockingly 1-0 up at the half. The 2nd half it was pretty much the Dav show, with Dav and his trickery combined with Raj’s great tackles at the back Lehmann Brothers didn’t have a chance. It all started to go wrong went a shot came off the boards and then off Mike Gays and in to level. Then Dav scored a 10 minute hat trick to put the game beyond doubt as Treesdown ended comfortable victors.

Game of the week. ABG vs. Reds United
Bringing Sexy back. Michael (London’s Finest). A Great display of skill all game, Fabregas who? It’s all about the mean machine that is Michael.
Goal of the day. Alex Lam (Q o Q). Half way, half volley, boom boom boom shake the room.
Saves. Tariq (Reds). Two great saves to prevent ABG from stealing the victory. Mike Gays (Lehmann Brothers) with an exceptional first half performance only to be undone by shocking defending in the 2nd half.
Yoyo. Abdullah vs. James Marin in the reds vs. Abg encounter was just enticing to watch one would score then so would the other, almost like twins separated at birth.
Duo of the day. Carlos and Matt Finch (Stafford 10). Great linkup between the two all game, apparently word has it they wear a similar after shave so they can sniff each other out on the pitch and don’t even need to look. Interesting tactic also used by Carlos Tevez and Adebayhore I meant Adebayor. Special mention should also go to the James double act in the ABG attack Cole and Martin with yet another sensational performance they may feel they should have got the victory.
Tackle Raj (Treesdown). Just call him stonehench.
Hat trick heroes. Dav (Treesdown) Abdullah (Reds) James Martin (ABG)
